Decorated cake challenge

I have made about 4 different cakes in the last 3 weeks and I started thinking  how cool it would be to be given a theme and we have to design a cake to go along with it.  I now there are a few of us crafty ladies  that could do this, but it would have to be a cake and not cardboard.  I find it a challenge when someone says make me a circus cake, or a racing cake to come up with something really off the wall.  anyone else?

Did you do the slot car cake with the real track on it???  (We did one for a friend's 30th b-day---)  We called it 'reclaiming youth'- and had everyone bring their favorite toys from childhood--- what a blast--- but more people wanted to play with the cake than eat it...  LOL

I was in a production of "Little Women" and  offered to do cake for the cast party. I went overboard and did "doll cakes" for every memeber of the cast in costume, and even frosted a sweater on a Ken doll for Laurie.  The plaid dresses were the worst.It was insane and I wouldnt do it again. But they were just adorable and everyone felt so special that they had their own doll and cake. Unless I got to do Scarlett O'Hara's costume changed from Gone With the Wind maybe.

Nah, I just made  made the top look like a race track then stuck real cars on it, I had 5 little 5 year olds fighting for the cars on top of the cake until I told them they were from cole's, my sons, personal collection.

*chuckles*  That's cute--- you should have seen the 15 ex-frat guys fighting over the 2 controllers on my friend's cake...    Somehow, not as cute as the little boys--- but still, I imagine, the exact same thing...

I think this would be very fun. I think there should be a price limit on what we could spend and the entire cake should be edible.

yay its cake decorating.. IT was the obsession that led to my crafting obsession..

Im not sure if how many people consider this a craft/be inthrested though, so  until this actually becomes a challenge, id like to direct you to cakecentral.com, which has holiday cake decorationg contests that you might like.
