Oh! You guys are so smart. I never even thought of having a ren faire board. It does involve a lot of making things, usually quite creatively. Good idea!

I'd use a board like this, as while I don't do reenactment, I do live action roleplay (broadly fantasy themed) and I always feel odd posting my costume FOs on the Clothing boards!

For me I'd like it to be quite borad in theme, or at least be that RPers can use it as well as reenactors.

I'd be happy if there was just a general costume board, you always have to dig through the clothing forum for them :-P.

I'm kicking around the idea of making a costume out of my Night Elf character on World of Warcraft. ^_< I love fantasy costumes.

Seconded. That way the costume-y can all be gathered together, and it'll be less narrow. (ie: if you start things like a "ren faire" board, then you'll invite reason for a star wars, lord of the rings, etc. themed boards.)

OH man, a costume board would be awesome. But maybe that would conflict with the halloween section? I dunno. There's a line there sorta...

But a costume board in general would just be awesome.

I don't think there would be a conflict (but I am biased)

my reasoning is most recreationist/LARP/faire clothing is CLOTHING not COSTUME.

most (not all but most) halloween costumes are costumes, not made to take the kind of use and abuse clothing does.  A fair whack of it can't take a recurring relationship with soap and water and look anything like it did before.  And trust me if you are using a tunic or dress even only once or twice a month being able to wash it at home becomes a HUGE deal.  Most LARP types meet at least once a week (one meets once on a weeknight and once on a weekend every week) and many you don't just wear one suit of clothing.

but like I said.  I'm biased

I agree that my Ren clothes are more clothes than costume, but that's not the only Ren-related item I make.  There's far more than just the clothes and jewelry of the period, so maybe a board for "sub-cultures"?  Then using child boards the fantasy costume folks would have an appropriate space, historic period folks would have theirs, etc.

Mikaiyawa - I agree with you - I might only go LARPing about 6-8 times per year, but the clothes need to be hardwearing - we scramble through gorse, up and down sand dunes, lie in the mud waiting to be healed, have pretend fights, all sorts of thigs that would be hard on a lot of regular clothing.  Add to that the challenge of making clothing that is period accurate, fits and is strong, and I think it would be good to be able to have a board to discuss this with like minded craftsters.
