Hi,
My husband and I are going to Finland to visit his family, and we were out shopping for gifts one day...I stumbled upon a purse made out of license plates that would be perfect for our 12-year-old niece, who's one of the coolest kids in the world.  She's into the whole punk thing at the moment and the purse would be perfect, but it was $40.00 for two bent-up license plates.  I put the idea out of my head, until one day I was at my parent's house and found the license plates from my first car...my old Plymouth Reliant K car that I drove 40,000 the year that I owned it, and died on the side of the road on the way back from a road-trip to the Zippo factory.  They spoke to me, and begged to be made into a purse.  I'm not super with sheet-metal work, but my husband is handy (until something needs to be fixed), so I put him to work.  He made the basic box, and then I filed down all the edges so it's not a tetnus shot waiting to happen, and lined it with red duct tape.  I think it turned out pretty cool!  It took us all weekend, but I think it's worth it....a purse that represents my mispent youth, a purse that tells a story, and hopefully a purse that she'll love.
