These are cakes I did a couple of weeks ago (with three other people):

The first one is a lemon cake, filled with white chocolate mousse and raspberries, frosted with buttercream, then covered with marzipan tinted yellow.

For second one, we used blue ribbon, which I'm fairly conflicted about because I feel that everything on a cake should be edible. We could have done it in another way (so that it WAS all edible), but not within the timeframe we had to work with. Still, I'm fairly happy with the results. In "person," it was very pretty and turned out far better than I thought it would. The top and bottom cakes are pistachio, the middle layer is lemon. They're all filled with chocolate mousse, covered in buttercream, then covered in fondant. The piping was done in royal icing.

beautiful!!!!!!!  ahhh i gained a new respect for you guys!!!  my best friend/bridesmaid flew in from new orleans to make my wedding cake in my own kitchen... poor girl almost lost her mind.  i have about 2 sq feet of counter space.  i keep looking at all those beautiful cake pans thinking i should try something someday but last thing i need is a 3 tier wedding cake in the kitchen for no good reason LOL  great job!!

Question for you, did you remove the fondant before serving to guest?  I never have but a friend of mine said I was suppose to.  I just think how ugly it will ook if I removed it before serving it.

Oh I LOVE the square cake with the ribbon. They are both great, though! I think the more simple cakes without all the fancy bridges connecting them and punch bowl fountains look so elegant and nicer than the fancy ones.

You're not "supposed" to. Some people do, however... a lot of American's don't like the taste (I love fondant, though)!

Ooh, I LOVE the second one. I think I have a thing for rectangular wedding cakes versus the traditional circular ones. They're both gorgeous, but my pick would be the ribbon one. How long did it take to make from start to end?
