Aren't we all lamas really...on the inside?

This winter I put plastic over the windows to keep out drafts. The cat wasn't too happy about this since it meant he couldn't sit in the windows. So I made him a cat shelf. Everything's recycled except the brackets.

I started with some scap plywood, some quilt stuffing, some salvaged upholstery squares and some shelf brackets. Upholstery worked best since my cat likes to scratch the fabric.

Sew the upholstery squares together big enough to wrap over plywood. (Prana is already showing interest.)

Next staple quilt stuffing onto plywood with staple gun.

Wrap upholstery around plywood and staple underneath.

Screw brackets to bottom and to wall.

Cat tested and approved!

I love it! I just wish I had windows (we only have sliding glass doors) in our house! My cats would totally dig that! BTW, your cat is adorable-look at him posing for the camera!  Cheesy Great job, especially with recycling most pieces.

That's such a great idea.  I've seen the ready-made cat shelves in stores, but always wondered if they'd use them (I don't have a kitty  Sad)  Your little sweetie pie looks like he loves it!  Smooches to the kitty!

Adorable!  I'm lucky enough to have wide window ledges (one of the only advantages to living in a vintage building) or I'd make one myself.

Thanks, thanks! It's definately one of the cat's favorite places. He naps there quite a bit.

The only thing I'd add to the tutorial is to make sure the wood is long enough. I lucked out with my scrap piece. My cat stretches out and takes up most of it.

Eeep!  Great project.  Thanks for the tutorial & great pics.

Prana is gorgeous.  He reminds me of my precious brown tabby babies, who can't wait to have a cat shelf of their own.
