hi, i just love the dress, and i have 2 questions:

1) if i cut the circle smaller so i don't have to gather it will the skirt part still come out like yours?

2) how do i gather it exactly, i know that's probably a dumb question Grin but i've tried this type of skirt to fit and the circle is always so big i can never get it to fit the waitsband, so help pleaaaaaaaaase

I guess if you use a stretch fabric you might be able to get away with cutting the circle a little smaller, but I'm not sure what it would look like. It would probably just be a little less flowy??

To gather you can either use your sewing machine or hand sew. Personally, I prefer to hand sew. To do this, make sure your thread is over the length you want your circle to be, roughly stitch right around the opening and push your fabric along the thread to gather it so the circle is the right circumference. Tie the two ends of the thread together to secure the circle at the right circumference, and spread the gathers evenly before fitting it to the waistband.
To gather using your sewing machine, set the stitch length at the highest setting and sew around the opening without reversing. Pull on the bobbin thread to gather it. You have to be careful with this method because the threads break if you pull too hard (well, they do for me!).

Hope that helps, and if it doesn't make sense, try doing a search on Craftster for gathering. I'm sure there are some tutes out there.

Gorgeous. The pearls and the pale yellow make it nice and girly.

Well you praise him, Then you thank him ,Til you reach the by-and-by, And I've won hundreds at the track, But I'm not betting on the afterlife.
Then you kiss his lips, He forgives you for it
He forgives you for all you've done, But not me
I'm still angry
