I have a bunch of those too and the original jewelry almost never ends up in them! They usually ARE ugly colors!  I wonder if you could use fabric glue to re-decorate them and make them into gift boxes?  Or paint them with fabric paint.  They are really kind of cool because of the way a lot of them snap shut so well.....if you take out the little holder things inside, you could probably keep beads, earring backs, saftey pins, anything tiny in them. I will think more about it!  TishaLee

I think I will try playing around with a few of them and seeing how they turn out. Seems like they must cost something to make, especially when they close so securely!  I'll let you know what I come up with.  You definitely have me thinking though!  TishaLee

I love the monster box...I did something similar with one of those round, wooden, hinged boxes only it was a frog with wooden bead eyes!  I like the idea of using the velvet jewelry boxes better though because of the envoronmental factor.  TishaLee
