Yeah, I know that's what it is. I want her to understand that it's not a cult. She's only worried because she loves me, she doesn't want me to get in any trouble. She'll be okay with it, or at least accept it, in a little while. She's cool like that. ^_^ I <3 my mommy!

LOL-well, mommies do worry you know!

Maybe if she learned more about Wicca? Personally I've never seen anything less cultish ever, since most practitioners are fairly solitary in their rituals-but then again I'm an atheist and am quite unlikely to ever join into anything that hints at worship of anything. But Wiccan's are the only religious people who accept that I simply don't believe, and none of them have ever demanded reasons for my lack of belief, so I'm rather biased towards them.

You can always just comfort her with the knowledge that at least you're not a heathen unbeliever like me.  Grin

I agree with Schmoo to try to educate your mom that you are not in a cult.  Make sure she doesn't look on the internet though.  It is full of a bunch of crap sometimes and it is hard to wade through.  I have always found that if you teach someone something you end up learning yourself.  I am glad you are in the fairy swap! We are going to have a blast!!   Grin

Yeah...I think everything is going to be okay. I'm still don't know much at all...but my best friend has been practicing for 6 years (lol I had NO idea. lol I told him today when he was helping me buy a book that it was no wonder I got the sense that he was much wiser than I when we were together talking of such things.) My mom is....accepting, more or less. In a while, we should have another one of these...it frustraites me to no end that I missed another, especially one I suggested! But I am looking forward to the faery swap immensely.
Peace, and have so much fun!!

Schmoo- It's really hilarious, because she's doesn't believe in god herself. She doesn't mind that I do...lol it's really confusing. I'm trying to show her that paganism is peaceful, if you want it to be. And I'm a very peaceful person.

Ha, silly me. I joined before I'd been a month online. Undecided  Would it be possible to just accept me on Aug. 9? I'd still make the swap that way.

nearfatalflaw-well now I'M embarrassed! Here  I am assuming your mom is a christian, when it really bothers me when others assume I am...(Schmoo hangs head in shame and ponders what this implies about her own thinking and promises herself to try more thinking and less assuming...)

haha it's no problem. One half of my family unit (mom and stepdad) is psycho christian, my mom is.....atheist? i'm not really sure. She's not too concerned about it. My stepdad is Jewish by birth and not really anything by choice. He doesn't follow any traditions. I'm pagan, my brother's christian...We have such a wide diversity in my family.

Dont' worry about it, it's a common mistake.

lol I did the exact same thing last night w/out even realizing it, and was terribly embarressed when my best friend corrected me. x_x I felt horrible. lol he's cool and doesn't get offended, though, especially by me...It would be wise for me to learn that sometimes silence is the best action. lol it's so easy to say something wrong.  Undecided
