If you are doing it for the purpose of avoiding the fee, then that's wrong.  But to turn away a customer is silly, and to post something that will be sold to a specific person is equally silly.  If someone wants to continue doing business with you because they like your work, it doesn't make sense to use a middle man.  That's just plain bad for the customer.

I wasn't trying to argue .... in fact, I beieve we agree about the same thing.

I did not mean to suggest that you should post something altogether different from what you make onto ETSY, just so that the customer can buy it there.  Nor am I suggesting that anyone who contacts you directly (not through ETSY) be guided to ETSY to purchase from you.

I am saying that if someone contacts you through ETSY (ie  through the "contact seller" button) and through correspondence (for example) you agree to make them a blue purse which is the same as the red purse you list on ETSY - the sale should go through ETSY.

In that custom orders make up 99% of our business, we are all for making the customer happy.

I am wondering how everyone is doing now that the fees are in place.

I have had a lot of hits but no sales.

Could someone critique my site?

I wish once we listed our items we could put them on our page in the order that we want to instead the order they were listed in.

beatgirl, I think your site looks good! I would think about making sets with your items...a set of 3 or 4 beaded bobby pins in similar colors is a lot more appealing and seems more useful than one at a time. And better pictures of your work would help. I know it's a pain to get access to a digital camera, but beads especially are just so much more beautiful sparkling in bright natural light than on a scanner bed.

thanks so much!

the bobby pin idea is definitely good.
i have so many of them!

as for the camera thing, i have access but i'm just clueless at to what background to use and how to get good pictures.

i live in a little tiny apartment so i don't have a lot of room to set up a photo studio.

I would just bring them outside on a sunny day. Put them against some good white fabric (I use white felt, so it's not shiny and distracting) and then fix them up a little in photoshop. viola! Smiley

I've only sold one thing so far, but my Etsy store has only been open a couple of weeks.  I love the concept of Etsy.  Hopefully things will pick up soon.
