I learned how to felt today and wanted to make a dinosaur egg.

Tomorrow I will make a hat, which will hopefully be more functional.

I covered an egg-shaped styrofoam ball with tufts of raw wool where i wanted the certain colors to be, and wrapped the ball (very carefully, so the colors didnt move around) with an old pair of stockings and knotted them (once on each end of the the egg). Then, I dunked the ball in a tub of hot, soapy water and sqeezed and rubbed it until i could feel the felt starting to firm up. When the felt could stay in place on its own, I dipped the ball in cold water to shock the wool and lock everything up and took off the stockings. Aaand this part is optional, but I rubbed the ball back and forth on a bamboo mat to really mat everything down...and let it dry.

Felting is sooo much fun...and it's a cheap hobby...you should try it!
