A couple months ago, I was invited to an independent artists event, which required "cocktail attire". Of course I wanted to make my own dress for this. I had a design/style in mind- a black dress with a leather bodice and a gathered skirt with a sheer overlay. I only had a few days to make the dress so I had to keep it kinda simple. I cut up a used leather coat for my bodice fabric and bought chiffon and some polyester knit for the skirt. Well, I wasn't able to finish it in time! I had to put a zipper in the back and didn't have an invisible zipper foot! D'oh!

But I finally ordered a foot and finished my dress recently. Here it is!

This was my second time sewing leather. There are a lot of things I know to do differently for next time! Like, I should probably put boning in it! Despite the mistakes, I'm still happy with how it turned out.

Turned out very well indeed. I must say I would have thought the leather would have enough internal stiffness not to need boning so I would have done the same as you.

Oh, it's gorgeous!

I love this so much. The neckline is really unique and interesting! I love the juxtaposition of leather and the chiffon as well Smiley
