I'm trading with an online friend and I finally finished the unicorn-fox couple, that she drew- even though it took forever, it was a really fun project Smiley

(needle felted on a wire armature, both over 7" tall)

... there's so many other things I'm working on, but can't show yet Tongue

They are adorable.

I especially like their faces, they are so finely detailed and precise, and they have the most charming expressions. Are the eyes embroidered or felted too?

I found that wire armatures make it more difficult for me to felt around and pricked my fingers more or broke a few needles when I wasn't paying enough attention to where I was felting. What do you think of it? Do you enjoy it?

Thank You! Smiley

Their eyes are felted- it was really easy, as they're big and I didn't stress over realistic look, due to the originals being drawings Smiley - but, in general, I prefer felting to embroidery on animals, cause I get the look, that I want easier that way, just less shiny than floss (unless it's silk or smth).

I love working with wire frames- I almost need that durable frame inside for me to feel like they're real and sturdy. I do wrap the wore first, which makes them stronger and gives this weight and seriousness to the sculptures, plus, lots, looooots felting to get the tight feel.

I never use any boards or foams/pillows- always felt between my fingers and  don;t stab that often, barely break any needles- maybe a few in the 3.5 yrs I've been doing this... just takes some focusing at first.
(but my fingerprints do look "altered" after the years Tongue)
