I have been working on some new stuffed critter patterns. I saw this cute owl on Pinterest and this is my version. I still have some tweeking to do...I'm not quite satisfied, but I am very happy with him.

I have lots of upholstery samples that have been sitting in my stash for way too long. I love the textures and the patterns, but it is hard to find a good use for the swatches. I see more owls coming to town.

His beak is a bit of twig and he is holding tight to another twig (wrapped metal wire claws).

It's mostly machine stitched and the eyes are some left over monster eyes. See the tut here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=431541.0#axzz3AhJWZo2A

Here he is by his favorite tree....

And here is is with his new turtle friend.

Such a great idea to use upholstery samples to make the turtle and owl!  I had gotten two big books of samples from Freecycle awhile back and just ended up giving them away b/c I didn't know what to do with them.  I love this idea!

Ha, I just got a commission to do owls for my Unitarian Universalist church's OWL program...stands for Our Whole Lives. It is an amazing program for teens that talks about growing up, sexual identity, who you want to be in life, how you want to be known and all that goodness. I wish I had had such a program when I was a young teen.

So off to make some OWLS, I have a whole year, so making some as I have time will be great.
