I am most definitely not a painter, but I was making a housewarming present for a friend and wanted to try something a little different to what I normally do. I used a wooden board for the canvas, and slapped down some nice thick layers of dark blues, dark purples, and a bit of black. Then I used silver paint to write out the quote. As you can see, I messed up a bit in the middle and there is some smudging >___< My consolation is that it is not quite so visible in real life! The stars are also done in silver, but they have glow in the dark paint added over the top. They do not glow very brightly, but when viewed at night they do look quite lovely ^___^ I need a *lot* more practise to get my brush control looking neater, but nonetheless I am happy with how it looks ^___^

I think your freehand brushwork is great!  Did you pencil out any guidelines or just go to it?

Thanks Deumira! ^___^

Alteredmommy, I wanted to make sure it was going to be centered so I worked out what I wanted on a piece of paper and transferred it onto the painted background with carbon. I had to fix it up a couple of times before I started painting and it's still not perfect but it's ok. I am a lot better at doing calligraphy with a pen, but thank you for saying nice things about my brushwork ^___^

You did a terrific job, and I love the quote.  Your friend is lucky to have such a thoughtful and talented friend as you!

teaandcraft, I was curious about the quote so looked it up and found (a) that it's from a lovely poem by a 19th Century poet named Sarah Williams (so thanks for introducing me to it); (b) there are a LOT of images utilizing the quote under the images part of the Google search; (c) I like yours best; and (d) yours appeared up just five "PgDn" scrolls from the top!

The full poem is lovely, isn't it waterbaby! The quote is so often attributed to Galileo, so I did write Sarah Williams' name on the back of the board ^___^ And thanks again, that is very kind of you to say! ^___^
