So, I picked up a few tiles from the Habitat Restore, and tried out the pour nail polish in a pail of water and dip them real quick technique. And fell in love with how they came out. Then decided they needed to be part of a piece of  art, instead.
Got a frame the right size from the Dollar Store, removed the glass, painted the artwork black for a background, replaced the glass, started messing with it.
It was originally going to have an underwater theme. but ended up random. I used almost every purple-ish bead I had, and a lot of gold, black, white, and clear to completely cover the space. Then poured on a LOT of sealer-I think that's a bottle and a half of jewelry sealer.
It theoretically could hang on the way, but it's a bit heavy. You'd just have to be careful to find a stud. Or it could just lay on a table.
So yeah-it's neither the coasters I was originally making,or the sea scene I vaguely envisioned,bt it came out okay anyway. ^_^
EDIT-Argh,it posted before the pics uploaded! Trying again!
Okay,it won't let me just upload my photos. And Craftster photo hosting isn't working at all. Let's try flickr.

The swirly beads next to the black tile, bottom left? Made them years ago, with the plastic bottle marker heat them tutorial elsewhere on crafster. There's several scattered throughout this. And I had six small black tiles, so they're interspersed evenly around the border. And a broken necklace gave the row of tiny black beading at the edges.

I can't find the tutorial right now, Always. It was filling a bucket, or disposable aluminum tray, or whatever with water. Then, you poured in nail polish on top.You can swirl it  with a stick if you want? Then, I took my tile and quickly dipped it in the water, bringing it up under where the polish was. I used purple and gold, and maybe a bottle of each? Did multiple dips to cover it like I wanted. I do remember that I had to work fast.
Okay, here's a link from pintrist where someone used this technique and spray paint on water to dip ornaments.

When I find the one I used I'll post it.

You are so clever! I really love this concept. I have a million beads that I know I'm never really going to do anything intelligent with, but they're so pretty and I love to look at them. This is a great answer! Grin
