Hi all,

I'm on a quest to figure out the perfect upcycle finish of a Lane cedar chest I rescue from the garbage last year.

One option I have in mind (truly the most epic) is to make a Harry Potter chest.  I would like to put the Hogwarts emblem and each of the houses in full colour on the sides (maybe the top).  That would mean the chest would be stained first, then the emblems put on (they won't be painstakingly painted for sure!) then some sort of resilient top coat.

Any recommendations on how to do the image on the chest?  I would like the gold to be gold... and the rest to be full colour.

Thanks!

You could do a high quality colour print - maybe a toner/laser print so there is no ink smearing, then go over the gold areas with gold paint, before gluing it on, then going over with a clear coat.
