after baby knocked down the lamp and the glass shade broke i had to make something new. so i made these flower petals and turned the lamp  into a huge glowing flower.  Grin

ok, i am not so good at explaining things, but here goes!

*first, get your supplies ready

20 gage wire,
tissue paper (remember to save this when you get gifts!)
acrylic medium (modge podge or one of those other decoupage products "might" work- no guarantee)
and a crummy old paint brush (it might get ruined)
and wire cutters/needle-nosed pliers are handy

*next, bend the wire into the object of your desire!

*then, tear strips of the tissue paper- and put a glob of the acrylic medium on it and "paint" both sides and fold it over the wire frame.

do this with a bunch of strips until your wire frame is covered and there are no single layers of tissue left.

let it dry- make sure it cant get stuck to anything while its drying!!!!

*finally, hang in window with all your other junk, er um treasures!

ok, i know this is a little heart and not a lamp shade, BUT now that you know the way you can cover anything-even 3D wire forms this way.
i hope this helps. feel free to ask questions and if you make anything post pics! id love to see Cheesy

thanks everyone,
i will try to do a tute when i get a moment.

the petals are shiny, they are kinda hard too, like thin plastic- thats  from the acrylic medium, wich is just like clear acrylic paint.

looking back i am glad the baby broke the old shade. it was boring. Wink

SWEET!! Is it a halogen light?  How did you rid the petals onto the top safely?   Smiley

no, it isn't halogen, that would probably be a big fire hazard. it has one of those screw in florescent bulbs.

the petals are just stuck in there. the hole was big enough to do that.

Gorgeous!!!!  I saw a man on Carol Duvall that was an artist, not one of her featured craftsters, that made these huge lit sculptures using layer upon layer of paper and thin reeds to make these awesome almost wave-like forms.  He would also incorporate driftwood sometimes.  They were beautiful!  Some were enormous!  And if I remember correctly, which is an iffy prospect, they sold for tons!!!

Your lamp reminds me ALOT of his work!  Congrats!
