My friend is really into manga and anime, for his birthday I've found a pattern to make a takeaway box which I'm going to make out of black card and enlarge. Ideas for what to put in so far are:

- pages of a japenese newspaper shredded as decorative filling
- a manga
- Some chopsticks
- Some sort of small japanese toy
- Japanese beer
- some fortune cookies with my own message inside
- Some sweets/cakes shaped like sushi

I have no idea how to make the sushi sweets though  Undecided and im not sure what else i could put in, does anyone have any ideas?!

it'd be fun to add something like some japanese music maybe? if you're not opposed to downloading songs, there's tons of mp3s out there.

did you know fortune cookies were actually invented in San Francisco?

maybe you could add a paper fan, or a little origami kit?

Yeah, most anime/manga fans (like myself) are also into j-pop, j-rock, or visual kei music. Try searching for music by Malice Mizer, Dir En Grey, Gackt, etc, or even the opening/closing songs to his favorite animes.

Um, you could try giving him one of those "How to draw mangas" books or a cheap substitute (those books are pretty high). Some book stores sell those little Zen garden kits in a box.

Perhaps you could include a travel book? For a few bucks you can find pocket-sized guides at any chain book stores that have information on attractions and customs with beautiful pictures. They even have mini language guides.

Sounds like a great idea though!
