So I have been so depleted of energy lately, it was time to focus on some serious nutrition and something to give me a bit of energy, rather than the carb laden comfort food that I have been eating too much of, calorie dense, but that's just giving me more padding to carry around rather than giving me any get up and go..

I did a bit of research and came up with this recipe to get a decent amount of some superfoods into me in a tasty (if not very pretty) form. The picture is not mine, but the smoothie looks exactly the same....green..

Makes one large serving:
Big glass of almond milk (You could use soy, but I like the taste of almond milk)
1 banana
small handfull of ice
1/2 mango (You could use a different fruit, some kind of berry perhaps, blueberries would be excellent as they are also superfoods)
1 tablespoon of ground hempseeds (i grind them in a spice grinder, they have the right ratio of omega 3 to 6)
1-2 teaspoon of spirulina (this makes it green)
I teaspoon of Maca powder
1 teaspoon of camu camu powder
1 teaspoon of bee pollen

put them all in a blender/smoothie maker, or even use a stick blender. zuzz until it is smooth and enjoy. It looks less than lovely, but it does taste nice and fruity and it is extremely good for you.

these last four ingredients are the powerhouse, they don't have a lot of flavour,  but they punch way above their weight in terms of nutrition.

I got all of the ingredients in the health food shop, in powder form, except for almond milk and hempseeds.

Desperately in search of popcorn flavourings-they don't sell them here Sad I have a new air popper and am stuck with boring flavours.

Good for you!  Since I gave up my carb laden cereals for breakfast, I have had a lot more energy and even lost a few pounds without trying!(12, to be exact!)

I make a similar smoothie for breakfast, but I add protein powder...almond milk has very little protein, and the protein is what is making the fat melt off. It also keeps your appetite under control until lunch.

You will be surprised at how only a week or so of better nutrition will make you feel, edelC...sounds like you are on your way to a healthier life! YAY!

I had a banana/strawberry one today, substituting flax seeds instead of hemp...chia seeds are also a good addition, but I ran out of those.

Wow way to go Alwaysinmyroom!! I must get a protein powder and add some, chia seems great, but they are sooo expensive!

the carb brekkie is a problem for me...because I am a total bread addict. I have been trying oatmeal, made with half milk half water, plenty of seeds and a little fruit and a small bit of sugar. Nice and very filling.

Once you break the cycle, it gets easier...I am eating veggie noodles, brown rice, and baked potatoes...bread is my weakness so I just don't start...seriously, I can eat a loaf by myself in one sitting!

I am going on six weeks now with only a few planned "cheats"...the energy is what I need the most and carbs made me sleepy and lazy...I wish you the best in your health journey!

Mmm I need to get back into my green smoothies. I usually do a couple handfuls fresh spinach and blend that up really well with my liquid, then add some frozen fruit and blend (usually 1/2 frozen bananas and 1 cup frozen peaches, or 1/2 frozen banana and 4-5 frozen strawberries) . I will have to look up some of the powdered goodies you have in there!

yup I can confirm a big scoop of unflavoured protein powder is brilliant, keeps you full for ages!

it is and it is very tasty. it tends to be a bit different every day. I am out of bee pollen at the moment (and it is expensive..and I am not sure how much it contributes over all to energy) but I sometimes throw in a few whole almonds at the start and a few sunflower seeds if I have them
