I adore Tolkien, and all things Middle Earth. One of my favorite things in the world of Middle Earth are the maps. I adore maps in general, but I really love the ones Tolkien made.

So, for the Tolkien swap, I made my partner a map of the Shire.

Here are a few detail shots

I made the trees out of very loose french knots, because I am not very good at circles. They usually look bizarre.

It was a lot of fun. I'm thinking of making a grid of hoops for another map. Maybe even one of Narnia.

Thank you!

I stained the fabric with water colors to give it a more antique feel. I like the effect, and I think I'm going to repeat it. Smiley

The hoop is wonderful!  I have been wanting to embroider the Shire maps for a long time.  Maybe I will do that this year.  Thank you for the inspiration!
