I'm joining the Abandoned Art Craftalong, the idea is so appealing and so fun. You make a piece of art, then abandon it to be found. I was looking for an easy and bright idea and alwaysinmyroom posted these cute crocheted birds. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=434378.msg5218657;topicseen#msg5218657

I'm too slow a crocheter, but I can sew up a storm. Searching Pinterest I saw a fabric version and then modified to fit my stash of craft felt. Nice and bright, easy, perfect. These birds took very little time to stitch up, especially in groups. I made 5 and plan on making more. I'll abandon a few today in my home town, then I'll be in Hartford next week for jury duty and can abandon more. Vacation is coming.....I'll leave them across the US (at least to Michigan).

Materials:
Scissors
Felt - 2 to three colors
Fabric
Jute twine/embroidery floss/yarn
Sewing machine or needle and thread

Start by cutting
1 ea. circle of felt 3 1/2" (9 cm) in diameter, cut in half for body.
1 ea. contrasting fabric circle 3 1/4" (8.5 cm) in diameter, cut in half. I used pinking shears.
1 ea. 1 1/4" square of yellow felt, then cut in half diagonally. This will make two beaks.
1 ea. 1 3/4" (3.5 cm) circle, cut in half for wings.
1 ea. 12" (30.5 cm )length of twine, knot together to form a loop for a hanger.
1 ea. 9" (23 cm) length of twine, knot each end about 3/4" (2 cm) from end and fray. Fold in half for legs.
2 ea. 6" (15 cm) lengths of twine, knot each end and fray, f
old in half for the tail.

Stitch smaller fabric circle to felt body

Stitch wings to body, add additional stitching or embellishments now.

Place both halves together, wrong sides facing. Place hanger, legs, tail. Fold triangle beak in half and place at head. See picture. Stitch around body catching hanger, legs, tail and beak. Leave a small opening for stuffing. Stuff lightly and stitch opening closed. Enjoy

lol back. Borrow away and modify. I've already made a few modifications. Nothing big, just a few shortcuts. I made 5 to start and just cut out 12 more and stitched the bodies. Tomorrow  I'll add the beak and feet and stuff. I abandoned 3 today. We shall see.

I will also 'borrow' this pattern and make a few. Love your birds.

Are you adding a card with your info so finders can let you know that they found one?

Yes I have a little tag that goes with the art. It explains the project and has the email, twitter and hashtag info. I should have put today's in little baggies as it then started raining! Live and learn.
