One of the hanging Morrocan style lanterns on my porch recently took a nasty tumble.  The result was a lot of shattered glass, and an empty hook just begging to be filled.  As our apartment overlooks a wooded area, there are also a lot of birds who frequent our porch and I had been meaning to get them a bird feeder.  But then I asked myself, why go buy one, when I can make one?

The inspiration came from this tutorial on My So Called Crafty Life: DIY Teacup Bird Feeder.  I picked up the teacup and saucer from Goodwill for $1, and all the other supplies came out of my stash, including the chain, oversized clasp, decorative clasps that I used in place of bails, charms and beads.

The cup itself was cute, and had a raised leaf pattern on it, but it couldn't be seen well as it was unpainted, so I highlighted the leaves with enamel ceramics paint, and fired it in the oven.  A little E6000, some chain, and voila!  New bird feeder for my feathered friends.

The chains are attached to the bails, which are glued to the saucer. Smiley
