I need help with box pouch which is 3h x 4 1/2 L x 1 W.  I can't seem to figure out how much to cut off my corners.  Have done from 1 to 1 1/2 and bag either come out too high or width to wide.  For some reason my picture won't add to my post.

sounds like you're trying to make a dimensional box from two flat pieces of fabric, right?  Or maybe one folded over.

There is probably a fancy calculation, but I would stitch the rectangles flat, then fold the corners seam-to-seam (i.e., instead of right sides together flat, match up the stitched seams).  Safety pin across the corner where you think you want it, turn right side out and see if you like it.  The length of the seam where the safety pin is should be equal to the depth of your box, and both edges from the point of the corner should be the same length.
