One of the entries for the county fair is this name tag.  The piece is 3 inches in diameter and the butterfly is 1 inch x 1 inch.  To get the details on the butterfly I used silk and cotton sewing threads.  The flower is needle painted using one strand of cotton floss.

Thanks for looking, comments are appreciated!

This is beautiful! I love the way you blended the colors on the flower.

Thank you guys!  The flower was my 3rd piece of needle painting.  I really recommend Trish Burr's books if you are interested in needle painting.  The trick is to get enough randomness when stitching.  This flower is too evenly shaped to feel real.  One project I did had a 2 inch leaf and for fun I thought I would count how many stitches it took.  After stitch 600 I stopped counting.  The shading is a build up of different colored stitches done with 1 strand of cotton floss.  Needle painting is a lot of work but when you want something special it is worth the effort.

Thanks Kittkill your luck worked!  I got a first place for my nametag.  But when I went to pick it up they couldn't find it at first.  They had put it in with the stuff another Lois entered.  But then she could have used it!

Thanks for all the kind comments.  Now I wish I could find my pansy embroidery that one came out particularly well.  Guess I need to pick up and clean my craft area!
