I think it has been some time since there has been a bird swap. And well, since birds are kind of my thing, I would like to propose that we make it happen again. I am thinking 3D birds mostly. Felted, stitched, sculpted, embroidered... Anyone interested, anyone, anyone? Grin

Here are some stellar birds from around Crafster:

I might be interested.  I have a couple of patterns for stuffed animal birds.  One is an awesome pelican, one is an awesome owl, another is a pelican more for a kid.  Of course, I could try my hand at sculpture too.

Yes! awhile ago I would have been pretty scared of the 3D aspect, but in the last month I've knitted two bats and two snails, and now knitting stuffie-type things has become pretty addictive! Ravelry has a really wide selection of patterns and inspiration... Grin

I have a friend who is a knitting goddess, one of those people who can look at something and figure out how to knit it, who raves about Ravelry. I've heard nothing but good things about that site, I've just never learned to knit. Smiley And... 3D is a loose term. I'm sure embroidery would fit in. I am considering making it a medium plus a small swap to allow for a 2D item, or little pin or notecard set or something of the like. Fun and loose, with a bird on it. Grin

Oh, I would just DIE to get a knitted bird!  I neither knit or crochet.  I tried to teach myself how to crochet once.  But, my chain kept coming unraveled.  So, I threw it all on the floor, stomped my foot, pouched my bottom lip out, pouted, and then never tried it again!   Cheesy  I go to Ravelry, drool, pin a bunch of stuff, then hope I get a swap partner that can knit or crochet.   Grin

Gotgrey, I had the same reaction to trying to crochet, twice. I don't know why, knitting (which wasn't easy to learn) is just more natural feeling to me I guess. Of course I LOVE anything crocheted...

Keeping an eye on this swap too, as I love (making) sculptures of animals, bugs and birds (and 2D Tongue)- it's all about timing these days with all those awesome new swaps coming up.

I would love to either sew, crochet of felt a birdie Wink

I am torn. I will be starting this one, or the Circus one, the last week of July or first week of August. What do you think?
How long does everything think they would need for crafting? Three, maybe four weeks?

... there's an ocean creature swap too???

(eep! I can't even go and see, I love octopi so much!)

I can't believe in how many tempting swaps there is going on right now!

I think 4 weeks for crafting for all swaps, a medium and up, is good- you know, just in case if something happens or inspiration takes time or something fails last minute and needs to be redone?

I'm thinking 4 weeks.  That pelican stuffie that I posted took me a wee bit to make, because he has LOTS of pieces.  He's a quilting pattern.  I will definitely sign up when this swap opens, as I just received feedback for the Enchanted Forest/Woodland Creatures Swap.  So, I only have 2 swaps in progress right now.  And, they are swaps w/a long crafting time.

It would be fun if those who has pet birds to post pics to share of them as well.  Smiley
I will keep an eye out for this one so I can join.
For years I had budgies. I LOVED my budgies. I had, Peet & Repeat (identical common greens), Zoe (light yellow albino who ruled the roost), Dot (green and yellow), Joques (Green & yellow) , Swayzie (my big baby who was huge and gorgeous turquoise), and I miss them terribly & hubby isn't a bird kinda guy unfortunately. *sniff sniff* Cry

Me too!!! I have had budgies since elementary school but got rid of my most recent ones only a few years ago mostly because my honey and the rest of the family was just annoyed with them. It's hard being a bird person in a non-bird house. Okay, in all fairness, they're not anti-bird as much as they are anti-birds as pets. No one could tune out all the chirping. I've had budgies, cockatiels, doves, finches, and a rosey bourke too. I do miss having birds around. My honey rolls his eyes at all the bird-themed art I have hanging up but alas, they don't chirp, so they are staying! Cheesy

lol, yeah, they can get lively at times for sure...but where others were calling it 'racket' I loved it cause it was like I was tuning into their conversations which at times were spirited. Smiley
I had a dark sewn cage cover that I would put over them at night and they would quiet down and I would get tickled cause in the morning I would walk in there and hear them beneath the cover whispering a conversation not disturbing a soul. haha then the party was on when the cover was removed!
I am hoping that one day I will wear him down and he will agree to one bird....until then I am catering the outdoor bird community banquet in my yard  Grin

Yeah, I'm sort of a bird addict. I've been obsessed since I was a kid. Having a bird swap seems like such a no-brainer to me now. I'm surprised that it took me this long to think of it. Apparently my attention was elsewhere and I just needed a kick in the behind from the universe to align me with my passion again. Grin

And... I am thinking that perhaps the week of the 28th might be a good sign-up time. Or do people want the week before, around the 21st?

Lol! I have been interested in fiber sculpture lately. I will probably sew something. Not a toy stuffy mind you, but something perhaps with a wire armature, sculpted elements, scrappy fabric, metal charms... Who knows. This is going to be so much fun. Who doesn't like birds?

The plan is to open this up in a week! Don't forget! I planned on a one week sign-up period but if you need a tad longer to get feedback from something else please let me know! I can't wait to craft an awesome bird or two!!! Woo!!!

And... I am considering allowing two partners. Not sure yet, but considering it... Much like the hoopla swap where you can pick to craft for one or two people. What are everyone's thoughts on that front? So you would either craft a medium and a small for one person (if it was a one-person only swap) or one medium for each partner in an optional partner number swap. So if you had one partner, you'd be committed to one medium item or if you had two partners you'd be making two mediums. Like, don't like?

I like the idea of allowing the option for 2 partners.  W/1 medium per partner, if you choose 2 partners.  And, 1 medium and 1 small if you only choose to have 1 partner.

I like the option of two partners so those who are feeling ambitious or who have more crafting time can do more if they want to. Those who are limited in the time they have, or who work at a slower pace can choose just one partner and not feel pressured to make more. I'll give it the week to get more feedback though.

OOOH I just received my new craft book 'the artful bird' and can't wait to try out some of the birds in the book, it's so full of inspiration! I esp love the penguin, flamingo and the wading bird.

?? I had no idea that such a book existed. Who knew! Off to look it up...

... Oh fun!! (Back from my jaunt over to Amazon.) Now I must add that book to my list. Whether I get it for this swap or not, I am not sure, but it must be added to my collection! Cheesy

My husband got me, "The Artful Bird", and another book for making small birds, in the hopes that I would make him some of them.  I only made one thing for him.   Grin

I might end up having to fake join this swap; I don't expect to get feedback any time soon from my other swaps.  But I know what bird I want!   Smiley
