I made this for the mini altered tin swap.  My partner had lots of circus/sideshow pins on her pinterest so I came up with the idea of making the "Fiji Mermaid":

I used the tiny altoid tin to hold the "mermaid" that I made from a little plastic christmas angel--I cut her in half, made a fish tail out of clay then painted her all brown.  I sprinkled coffee grounds on her for texture and some wool for the hair.  Some of the "mermaid" images I found had white eyes painted on--I like the creepiness of that so I gave her white eyes (hard to see in this picture):

An altered Barbie is the the creepy circus man enticing you to come inside the tent for more sideshow freaks!  I painted her eyes and new eyebrows, yellow teeth, wicked facial hair and dirtied up her cheeks.

I made the hat from card stock and clothes from felt and ribbons.  It was the most time-consuming part, making the clothes, but at least I could just glue them on.

I decided to cut her legs short since it was such a small scene with the mini-tin and I glued her to a wood base that I decorated and distressed with scrapbook paper and brown chalk.  I decided to glue a poster to the back advertising the show.  I thought it might distract from her short little legs!

I thought it was a little extravagant for a "Mini tin" swap but my other ideas were even more grand, so much that I was thinking, "I can't even tell there is a tin in there".  But I'm happy that it turned out mostly how I pictured it in my head, a lot of times things don't and I was pretty worried that it would look cheesy in the end, so I am relieved that my partner likes it!

That is the most wonderful creepy I have ever seen! Lots of creativity in this project. My jury opinion is out...BLUE RIBBON PRIZE! Such attention to detail. And I love the sign on the back. Those are often seen at carnival/circus events. And neat re-use of materials, too. Darn, now I want to chop a Barbie in half  Grin

SSSQQQUUUUUUEEEeeeee!  I love it!  Barbie looks great in drag for one thing.  And the Fiji Mermaid is awesome.  Fab, Fab, Fab!!

To all past swap partners....If something I made you fell apart in some way, it would be helpful to me if you PMed me and told me about it.  Sometimes, I try new things, and if they fail, it helps me to know

This definitely rocks!  Thanks for sharing your process!

Love your conversion of the angel doll and Barbie...the attention to details like proportion (cutting off the legs was fantastic!) makes this piece one to admire from all angles!!
