I scored this doll at a yard sale for free. But don't worry, we spent lots on other items so no one was cheated here. But here she is looking at me with that dopey sweet grin. What to do? I have an urge to do something creepy with her too. Must be the hot weather.

She is 18 inches tall and has porcelain head, arms and legs. Her legs flop all over, but her arms are moveable, but frozen pretty much in place. I may have to take her apart to get them moving again. Right now they are covered by a sewn on body fabric. The back of her head had sustained markings from laying about with little to do and her dress is muslin. I don't think she is antique, but she's been around awhile. The sale was from an older couple who both did woodworking and crafts. There were doll houses, toys, half finished projects and other dolls.

I also brought home a big wooden spool, and yarn cones...paper board ones in various sized. Lots of them. Another idea stumper at the moment, but the holiday season may cure that. But there are way too many.

Any visions?

You could steam punk her, and make her look like an aviator.  Or, make her look like Pippi Longstocking.  Or Annie, or a scruffy looking tomboyish looking girl.  Or that little comic girl w/the dark curls.  I think she's from the twenties.  I can't think of her name for life of me right now.  As far as the cones go, there is a link in the completed projects of this board, for making gnome/fairy houses.  Or, you could make stump fairy houses out of the cones.

Oh, I like the gnome house idea!

And yes a steampunk doll would be fun. Or a zombie. And I loved Pippi when I was a kid. Now I am getting too many ideas. That is the best!

I don't like the nightmare idea. She is too sweet for that.

I think your thoughts on "re-rigging" her arms are great.
And a bit of a wig would be nice. Maybe some eyelash yarn there? A wig is easy to make...like a snuggly hat with eyelash fuzz that sticks out. You could even change those out for different costumes.

I would ditch her dress and go with a different outfit.
Not so much baby doll...that does not look to be her original dress, anyway.
Give her a name, and that will guide you.  Grin

Hope this helps...just my two cents

Oh, and good score. She is cute!

I'm w/Stillatthetop on not turning her into something nightmarish.  Not real keen on the zombie idea.  But, then again, zombies aren't my thing.

I was thinking of painting out her face. Her head needs a repaint anyway as the back is dirty and it does not come off. Then I think I can see her as she is and she will speak to me. Definitely female, but who is she yet? I have time, and she seems patient, so we will let her grow.

I love her feet.  Her hands are nice, too, but the realistic extremities don't really go with the oversized, stylized head with the '70s-awful eyes and unbalanced pink splotches.  I'd find her a new head and use this ugly one for...target practice?

You should see her now. They grow up and then go through tough times. See the complete thread here. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=448271.msg5395877#msg5395877
