The local Fair turn in date is tomorrow and so I have been finishing up my entries.  Here is my cupcake entry under Miscellaneous at the Fair.  The techniques used are soft sculpture, ribbon work, beading and silk ribbon embroidery.  It was fun to make them but they took a lot of time.  Warning lots of pictures.

Here is how I am going to display the cupcakes.  Using a white plastic cake stand and placing each one is a wide paper cup.

Thanks for looking and if you try this at home leave yourself several hours per cupcake.

Thanks Ludi, that means a lot to have your compliments!  The fifth cupcake was made using a 1 inch wide sheer ribbon.  The ribbon is zig-zag  runched and then flat spiraled onto the cupcake.  Small stitches through some of the petals holds it together.  Then for the edge I strung and draped small crystal pearls and then sewed on large crystal bicones.  Somehow it didn't seem right to use any color on the 5th cupcake.  Hope that they will like it at the Fair!

I was trying to make a fabric cake, but could not figure out how to manipulate the ribbon to look good.  You've done just what I wanted to be able to do! Thank you for the inspiration; I may try again!   Smiley

I want to do a soft sculptured wedding cake.  A wedding cake would be fun to do but a lot of work.  One of  the things that help the cupcakes look fancy is that after making the cupcake out of felt I then made a yoyo out of satin and sewed it to the top like frosting.  Just a small touch but I think it really helped.  Good luck with your project.
