I decided a few months ago that I'm actually a mad scientist and not an artist as I previously thought.  So, I don't call my craft space a studio, or craft room.  Somehow, this small change has helped me to take the space more seriously.  I've been working for 3 to 6 hours a day in the laboratory trying to get it sorted out and organized.  Since I have a chaos brain, being organized is not my strong suit.  I have been just throwing things into a big pile for the last three years...

This is after a few days worth of work.  It's mostly to illustrate just how much stuff I have and how it tends to be all over the place.  But I did manage to clear out a corner completely so I could get a table into that space..

But I didn't have a table to put there.  So, a few days ago, the Hub and I went out to hit the thrifts to see what kind of deal we could find.  We located a butcher block style table with solid wood legs.  It had a 30$ price tag, which was a bit more then I wanted to spend, but still a decent price.  We went to pick it up today and the price was 25$ today, so YEAH!  After we picked that up, we went to the local Salvation Army to see if they had anything to add in.  They were having a clearance sale!  I got 6 other pieces for 2 bucks each!

I was just going to get one of the end tables, but the Hub thought I should get all three pieces, so as not to mess up the set Grin.  About an hour later he was like, "Did I just encourage you to spend more money then you were planning??...Do I have a temperature??" LOL.  The white stool/table will go onto my desk, once I get around to redoing that space.  I'm also not sure if the side table will stay on top of the table.  My little drill press, vice and toaster oven are probably going on the table....anyway, lots of options now Grin

This is just faze one of a much bigger project, but I wanted to show it off a bit anyway Grin

Yes, it's HUGE!  I'm pretty sure it's the largest room in the house.  I'm so not used to it LOL.  Most of my life I have had a tiny space to craft and could only do one thing at a time due to that.  This time I can have separate little stations where everything is set up all the time.  The room seems to be set up as a rumpus room.  There are 3 different cable wires in different corners.  But the Hub and I like our computer/TV room dark, and one wall in the lab is all windows, so I win Grin

I am wiping off a bit of drool as I type... Grin

I want to be a mad scientist too! That's brilliant Cheesy My husband and I just bought a house in April. The room I thought was going to be my "craft room" is still the place where we piled all the unpacked boxes and other items, so it is just a storage warehouse for now Sad

Thanks for the inspiration!

lovely job. my craft room looks like a leopard den right now.  It is also used as a store room but I must confess most of the mess is mine.  You inspire me to get organised. Mad Scientists Rule. Cheesy

It is awesome, you are getting your lab set up and I really enjoy the your table installation Grin one can never have enough tables ! I applaud Colin for making you get the whole set, even if he did indeed have a temperature- I can see wonderful ways to install these tables and benches and things in order to create a lab-worthy shelf-like thing that is utterly useful-

And I am still envious that you have such a big lab in which to play!

Wow!  Thanks everyone Grin.  I was not expecting such a turnout to my little lab showing Grin

I agree Alwaysimr.  I love 60's-70's kitch and those wee tables are a good example.  I'm feeling really good about keeping the set together in fact.  And I agree about vertical storage.  I'm not a fan of blank wall space and it's nice to not have to put shelves up.

PerfectlyBohemian I think all it takes to be a mad scientist is the mad desire to be one, so welcome to the club Grin  I hope that it takes you less then 3 years to escape from the seemingly endless amount of boxes that moving makes.  We moved from a small condo to our double the size house, but never seemed to actually have any extra space.  It feels great to be finally setting things in order Grin

elderflower Thanks Grin.  Orging is hard and can be dull, but it seems worth it at the mo Grin

BirdBones--Thanks Sweetling.  I lay awake last night thinking of all the different ways to stack things.  I'm also fighting the urge to go back to the place were all the 2 buck stuff came from and by a bunch more things to stack!

Thanks Trekky.  Part of the reason I decided to post was to keep my working at it, so I'm glad you want to see more Grin

I'm headed to my folks for a few weeks soon, so it will be a bit before I make more progress.  But I will have lots of time to dream of devious storage devices while I'm there;D

Of course it's a laboratory!! I've never heard of any mad scientist working in a "studio"! I love your vision for the space and it's really coming together. While many mad scientist labs are in cellars of dingy old castles, this bright and open space is much better for a crazed-creature-creator of your persuasion Smiley. You sure scored some great furniture... lots of room for test tubes Smiley. Keep sharing your in-progress shots! I want to follow along!

Thanks LimeR Grin.  I have to have the windows so I can capture all the little odd things in my back yard.  I'm starting to think there is a nuclear reactor up the river with all the mutants I have running around back there Grin

I will definitely share action shots...it will help me to keep working on it.  My next plan is to see how many pulleys and bungees and such I can hook to the ceiling above the lab table.  I want to be able to just reach up and grab something and then let go.  Today I got a retractable plant hanger at a thrift for 99 cents.  It might be strong enough to have a tool bag hanging from it Grin

My sewing room organisation isn't as amazing as yours either but it is starting to look a bit better thanks to your inspiration.

Ah that's sweet elderflower...now I don't want to show the pile of yet to be sorted stuff, lest I uninspire you Grin  I'm at my folks for a bit, or I'd show you just how much more work I still need to do.  I can say that I did a bunch of work on The CHAIR OF CONTEMPLATION!!! before I left, and it will be one of the first things that gets finished when I get back.  I'm looking forward to sharing that Grin

heheh I did think of that when I was telling my mom about it all today Grin

And Thanks Racky.  Dad is doing very well.  He had some bone chips taken out of back that wear pressing on nerves.  Both Mom and I can tell he is walking better already.  And he is healing well too, which was a bit of a worry.  He's 83, but the only surgery he has had up to this was eye surgery, so it was uncharted waters.  But two thumbs up to the whole procedure Grin
