At ten o'clock at night, a day and a half before my daughter's kindergarten promotion, I decided that she needed a new dress for the event, giving myself just one day to get it done. My first attempt at this dress: http://violettefieldthreads.com/collections/dress-patterns/products/emmaline-dress-sewing-pattern was getting a bit small, so opted to make another one for her. The pattern calls for three ruffles at the bottom, but I opted for just one to reduce the weight of the dress. The previous weekend, I found an awesome lion-print vintage sheet for $2 at the thrift store and I knew this was just right material to use:

I actually was able to finish the dress in about 6 hours, and I only sewed the bodice to itself twice!  Cheesy

Completely adorable! Best dressed kindergarten grad ever. The turquoise makes the outfit. Smiley

Wow! I love postings like this, where the payoff doesn't come til the end. As I scrolled down, I was trying to imagine what the finished dress might look like, and I'm afraid to say my mental images weren't flattering. Embarrassed So it was a wonderful treat to see how fabulous the lion-sheet dress actually looks! I especially like the fact that it's kind of timeless - would look equally good forty years ago as it does today!

Lovely dress.  I, too, couldn't visualise that fabric on a kindergartner but it is gorgeous on her.  The beads and shoes go so well.  Well done.

Oh my gosh - my grandmother owned a set of those sheets! I used to think they were awesome. You did a great job on the dress - and thank you for a surprise stroll down memory lane! Smiley

This is awesome! I would totally wear that dress (if it was a wee bit bigger).
