I have been itching to make the fabric rope bowls that have been posted all over Craftster. KittyKill has a fantastic tut, you can even find it on YouTube! I love her tutorials, they cover the essentials, are short and awesome.

I used 100 feet of rope, three spools of thread, and fabric strips from one leg of old flannel PJs, sleeves from two old shirts and 2 fat quarters. I like using old clothes, you can find fabrics and colors that may not be available in the fabric stores...and they are often free!

These bowls are made for the Empty Bowl project, a project  to raise money for two important Rhode Island programs: Housing First and McAuley House. Heres info on how these groups address hunger and homelessness in a holistic way: http://www.uua.org/ga/justice/18215.shtml

beautiful colors!

I love making these bowls, and now I think I am going to make one using some of my Mom's favorite shirts...it will be a nice reminder of her each time I see it...

Also, I bet these went over well at your charity!

I haven't delivered them to the person who gets to take all these bowls to Rhode Island's GA (Unitarian Universalist General Assembly). I can't go this year and can't wait to see all the bowls that are being donated. One group here got together and made 12 turned, fired and glazed bowls. Fun stuff.

These did turn out great. Were you implying these are your first? WOW! Great job, great reason to create too. And yes, using old clothes for these is the best. And you never really know how the pattern of the fabric will turn out in the end coiled on the bowls. The plaid came out really fun!
