I made this for PerfectlyBohemian in the Altered Spool Swap.  Alice in Wonderland was near the top of her list of themes.  I started poking around in my stash and realized I had a good start on some Alice related embellishments but couldn't figure out where to find a spool just the right size for what I envisioned.  I noticed some clearance polyester cord on clearance at WalMart and talked the salesperson into letting me have the spool if I bought the last of the cord, so for 90 cents I was all set!

I appliqued some butterflies on a bit of embellished dot fabric and that became the base background.  I added a white rabbit and 'drink me' potion.

There are also Alice playing cards in the garden.

And a lock and key amongst the flowers, butterflies and ladybugs.

I made the tables for the top, using a real pocketwatch face for one of them.  I made the macaroons and glazed cake out of polymer clay.  It's a little hard to see, but there's a mad hatter's hat under one of the tables.

A nice touch, the 'Curiouser and Curioser' locket on top of the spool opens to images of the White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat.

Alice sits on another spool wrapped with fancy trim and beads.

You were able to incorporate so many elements from the story, and have it work well. My favorite is the table from the clock face. Lucky partner!  Smiley

Thanks so much MissingWillow! It really is fantastic. There are so many little things and details on it that I can't stop looking! Right now it has taken over as a "centerpiece" to my kitchen table until I can get a cabinet to put my teacups in. I think Alice's tea party would be quite a good companion to my mismatched tea collection. Cheesy

Such wonderful detail Smiley
This is really sublime; I love the way that the more you look the more you notice the wonderful story elements.
Alice sat on the top is looking amazing, as is the cute little white rabbit Smiley

What a fun spool!

I love how you put so many favorite items from the story into one piece!  I love the table and the little food!  Also, the chess pieces!
