So yesterday I hit Hobby Lobby and got myself some clear modge podge...which I have never used before but wanted to try....any tips from you pros before I start with a bang?! lol I had purchased a risen kit, where one mixes the two equal parts, but didn't crack it open yet. It looks like this modge podge stuff may be easier for me to handle.
I'm rather excited as I have something cool in mind. Smiley

The test run I made for myself came out perfect. The 3 I made for my partners look terrible and I can't feel the tip of my index finger. Time to go back to the drawing board.

It depends on what you need to do with the mod podge or resin.  Both have their uses.  I like to use resin for a more durable coating, but if you are new to it, it can be slightly fussy - if it is very cold, it can make it more bubbly/cloudy, bubbles can get trapped in the coating, and be fussy to get out (some brands of resin are better than others), and if you used something fibrous, like paper, if you don't seal it well, including the edges, the fibers can wick the wet resin up and make the material translucent - which may not be a bad thing if that is what you want.

Oh yes - in the jewelry section, there is a tips thread about resin.

Also, if it is the two part air dry resin and you do try it (do, it can be awesome as a craft option, and there are many ways to fix any mistakes), just remember when putting it somewhere safe to dry, make sure it is nice and level, layer something like scrap plastic bags under it in case of overflow, and cover it with something to prevent any bits of dust, fur, or whatever from floating onto the surface and becoming a part of your piece.  Also, no matter how temping it is DON'T TOUCH it until it is dry - not unless you like fingerprints on your work.

I like Modge Podge as an adhesive, but as a sealant it can be a little temperamental. In my experience, it does not like humidity and gets sticky. But lots of people love it and use it all the time -- and I don't know that I have used the clear Modge Podge, so maybe it's a different formula!

I keep meaning to try resin! It looks so fun. I'd love to hear how you do with it!

resin is one of my kryptonite crafts  Cheesy I wanna try it and touch it and play with it but I'm afraid it'll suck all my craft eagerness and energy away causing frustration  Cry

Thanks for the tips! And while I am still a tad scared of the risen..we will see. LOL I may start off with the modge podge and see what happens and then become brave. I have made pendants from various mediums at this point and am trying to figure out what to do/send to whom. I have hand sewn,  beaded, wire wrap, going to give the modge podge a  whirl and see what happens. I'm glad we still have time cause I keep being my own worst critic!  Roll Eyes

There's nothing wrong with that. This is how we grow as artists. Wink

One thing I have learned from all these years of crafting is to give yourself the license to just play and experiment - some things are failures.  But often you can discover so many new and fantastic things - even from the failures!

Two down! Woo hoo!

And I agree Onyxnox. I learn so much when I "oops". For example, how not to do it.  Grin
