Stitching INCHIES Craftalong!

Cake Smiley by oh_merci on Flickr

  • Do you like to embroider, but just find that you don't have the time?
  • Are you an embroidery noob, who would love to 'practice' new stitches?
  • Do you like stitched samplers?
  • Do you want to have some FUN?

Well then this Craftalong might be JUST for you!! Cheesy

This Craftalong is inspired by the "39 squares" stitchalong.
Read more about it here --->  http://39squares.blogspot.com/

finished2 by inspireco on Flickr

Basically you embroider a square for each year of your life (your age). You might have to use rectangles that take up 2 or 3 squares to make it come out right...

See more examples here ---> http://www.pinterest.com/marybethburrell/39-squares-stitch-a-long/

You are welcome to follow the above premise, or to stitch single loose inchies - The choice is yours!! Make as many or as few as you like!
Only requirement: The stitched square must not be bigger than 2"x 2".

Starting June 1st, I'll be listing some themes, prompts, and challenges right here, to serve as inspiration for your inchies. You are however more than welcome to do your own thing too.  Wink

NEW TO EMBROIDERY??
This website contains all you need to know to get you started!

http://www.aokcorral.com/projects/pj611_how_to_embroider.htm

*In the mean time, prepare your fabric, gather your embroidery threads and embellishments!
Stitching officially starts June 1st! *woot woot*
*

Missed the starting date?? - This is not a problem! You are welcome to jump into this Craftalong AT ANY TIME!

Build your embroidery repertoire! We'll start off with some basic stitches and progress to more difficult stitches along the way!

CHALLENGES:
Challenge 1: Incorporate running stitch into one of your 'stitchies' (stitched inchie)
Here is a tutorial:

Challenge 2: Use back-stitch:

More challenges coming soon!

I was thinking a themed '39 squares' project could be cool!?

Here are some ideas:
- Sea/ocean life/maritime
- Tea Party
- Sugar and Spice (I'm thinking cakes, cupcakes, cookies etc.)
- Kawaii
- My Favourite Things!
- Gardening (I'm thinking loads of different flowers, herbs etc.)
- All things kitchen
- Creepy Crawlies (bugs, insects)
- Signs and Symbols
- Harry Potter
- Christmas

I guess the dangers of doing something themed could be that you might not have enough ideas to fill all the squares? *Just something to keep in mind*

Of course a bunch of Randomness could be pretty awesome
too!

Oh, I love this concept! I have never done a craftalong... I might have to give it a shot.

I guess we would have to plan out our squares ahead of time to make sure the layout works? I'm looking forward to hearing more Smiley

Craftalongs are loads of FUN, and helps to keep one motivated and inspired Wink If you are planning to do something similar to the '39 squares' then planning your grid layout ahead of time will definitely make things easier. If your age, or amount of squares doesn't give you a perfect rectangle you can combine 2 squares to form a block.

Glad to have you on board Nasreen and ..

Perfect timing! I was watching the twinchies swap but I think I'm too new at embroidery, so this is the perfect chance to test my skill! I love the little double squares though, it's a pity my age will be a perfect rectangle. Maybe I'll just add a row so I can sneak some double squares in! Smiley I've got most supplies but think I'll get some calico and start marking it out today.
