Hi!

I'll be moving to Bakersfield in early August (major cross-country move from Kentucky).  Just wondering if there are any craftsters out there who live in the Bakersfield area.  I'd love to hear from ya!

Amy

I lived in Bakersfiled up until about...hmmm...4 months ago?  It's not that exciting, but if you look around, you can find a few places- there are several Michaels, a Joann's, and a couple malls.  Smiley

I must say, though, why Bakersfield?!  Huh

I live in Bakersfield!
When everyone says that it's boring and quiet here, don't listen.
You just gotta look in the right places.
As for crafty places, there're Beverly's, Michael's, JoAnn's, Goodwills and Salvation Armies.

I've lived in Bakersfield all my life.  There are two local LYS stores, one which has a massive bead selection.  We have multiple michaels, one beverly's and a jo-ann's that is near the mall.  There is a fabulous fabric place on the east side called F and M fabrics, where the selection of fabric is oh, about the size of a regular michaels store, and a lot cheaper.

But anywho, welcome to the armpit of California.

I used to work at an independent bead and yarn store, it was about a year ago but I think it is still there.  Creative Pursuits, on White Lane near Gosford.  It's right next to the sportsbar that's also a hair salon.  I am not making that up.  We did knitting and beading classes, including one-on-ones if you wanted help on a pattern or to learn something specific.  There is another independent one downtown somewhere, but they were our competition so I've never been there.  The Empty Space theatre had craft fairs every now and then, the cool kind with kids making purses out of old record sleeves, no teapot cozies ecetera. Even if they don't have a craft fair, check out that theatre, it's awesome.
