Another nature spirit. Love, love, love. So digging the shape of her face.

I received from Smmaarrt this afternoon! Check out my beautiful Skye.

She is really calling to be outside, so I think I will find a way to mount her near my back door (the one we actually use).

She also sent some extras. Lovely little handmade books.

The books will be put to great use as a I have a budding bookmaker/art journaler at home. We just finished a semester in bookmaking at our homeschool connect, and she was examining these books and marveling over the use of paper bags and upcycled materials.

Thank you so much for swapping with me, Smmaarrt! I can't wait to do this swap again.

So glad she arrived but it looks like some of her branches were broken in transit. Sorry!!

Here is what is inside -

In a small bag - a 2014 penny, a Euro penny, The numbers 6 and 11 - Rachel's lucky numbers, a glass lady bug, a tiny mirror and and evil eye bead. The heart was originally sewn on her exterior, but the color didn't match.

Here she is with all branches intact:

And her sash has the feather charm, the star and a key:

This was a fun challenge - making something without sewing it. But I loved the process and the learning/education that went along with it.

Again, Rachel, I'm so sorry she broke - I was trying to be so careful when I packed the box. And I'm happy your budding bookmaker approves of my endeavors - you see I sewed one book - I couldn't NOT send something sewn!

EDIT: I forgot - I did stitch her a bit on the back - just to make sure she stayed together. When I made the "head", it was droopy so I gave her a facelift - it was funny and I stretched those stitches tightly so her face would be upfront.

She has drift wood, milk weed pod, woven branches, little curly wood thingies...grape vine curles? A most wonderful face (did you make that yourself?) and little charms all over her body plus mushrooms. The yarn is all shades of green and all different textures. Simply marvelous! Some of the pods broke off, so I glued them back on...hopefully in a good spot. If not, well, she can change her mind.

Oh goodness! I am sorry the pods broke off! I should have thought that through! I just loved those so much I had to throw 'em in there! at least you could glue them back on. I did make the face with clay and painted it. The little curly branches are vines I specifically went into the woods to find. I believe they are American Bittersweet? Not completly sure on that. My dog was making it VERY hard to collect them. *sigh* Most of the vine is usually about an inch across and then it has little vines curling off to try to attach themselves to things. The little ones are the ones I collected.

Smmarrt, what a pretty doll you made! Surely a challenge to make something with (almost) no sewing involved! I love her face and the sticks you used. Did you wrap her body around the sticks?

I love how you gave her hidden treasures! What a great idea!  Smiley

2 of our swappers will send 1 day later, the rest sent, woohoo!

Let the gallery fill up with more precious dolls! I'm so ready for that!!

The Raging Sloth....I love the nature bits. The curlies are fantastic no matter what they came from. We have Oriental Bittersweet taking over the woods here. Very invasive, very nasty stuff. Miss the american varity, it's been pushed out here in Connecticut. Hard to find. Might also be a wild grape. Grapes do that curly thing too.

And the broken bits were no problem. Glue is a great resource! She's hanging on the back of the front door now. Just so I can look at her every day.

I received yesterday from Craftymamabee!  She picked my intention of creativity.

Isn't she beautiful?  CraftyMamaBee chose beautiful bold colors that I LOVE esp. bright orange and royal blue.  She has a beautiful sash made of netting and has the word "Create" embroidered on her side.  What my partner didn't know is when I was little, my grandmother taught me to embroider.  Some of my fondest memories are sitting next to my grandma as we practiced stitching and french knots.  I have never kept up with it as an adult, but anything embroidered always reminds me of her.  She was an amazingly creative woman who made clothes and quilts with artistic quality and I always wanted to be as creative as she was.  I feel like this spirit doll carries a little bit of my grandmother's spirit and I immediately think of her when I see it, right down to the embroidery needle attached to her sash!  The crazy thing is, my grandmother also played a role in the doll I sent to CraftyMamaBee, but I will let her tell you about that.   Wink

Close up of "Create":

Thank you so, so much CraftyMamaBee!!!!  I really love her and she will be watching over me as I attempt my creative future endeavors!!  And a huge thank you to wendiek for giving me such a perfect partner and organizing this great swap Cheesy
