I wanted to make this rose for Mother's Day for the moms, but could not source the large sheets of crepe paper to be delivered fast enough.

I decided last week to try my hand at coffee filter roses instead and instead of one large mega sized rose, to make a bouquet of a dozen for each.  These took a very long time, but I am very happy how they turned out.

First off, I made a prototype to make sure I could do it.

I liked how it turned it out so the bouquets were a go.  I made two of these, wired them together and placed them in ceramic pedestal planters.  I am very happy how they turned out.  I love that the texture of the coffee filters actually looks like that fine veining texture that rose petals have too.  I would like to play with it a bit to see if perhaps I can make them more bud like.

More pics and details on my blog post about the bouquets.

Maybe next year I can order the crepe paper early enough to make the jumbo roses...  I really hope the moms like these.

Thank you - we just came home a short time ago, from delivering them to both our moms.

My mom said they were better than a bouquet of real roses because she could keep them forever and how she loves when I make things with my own hands (!!!!! - she only really recently started saying out loud that she appreciates my hand made goods - apparently she tells nieces all the time how artistic I am!!!! I love my mom!).

Jim's mom said she loved them too and has already requested another one for a Christmas centerpiece, except she is now worried that it will take me too much time - she could not believe they were made from coffee filters!  I am so happy I went with this idea!

If anyone else decides to do this, use Ranger's Distress Stains - the colours turned out awesome using them!

Oh that is great! Thanks for sharing that with us!

Awww! That is great!
My stepmom does that too, she keeps telling everyone she meets that I'm so creative and make my own... whatever. Haha, isn't that the best feeling! Smiley

Smiley  Especially when they are kind of crafty on their own too - my mom taught me to knit and some sewing basics... and last year my MIL and I redid some cushions together, and went yarn shopping together, and she wanted my help with some patterns as she was getting back into crochet, now that she's retired.  That kind of gives me that warm glowy feeling.  I also see that mom uses the yoga bag and mat that I gave her last Christmas too.

I almost forgot - I made some cards to go with them too.  But I am thinking I may have forgotten to give my mom's with hers... it may still be in the trunk of the car.  I thought they were a nice combination, with the pinks and all.

That is great! Okay, I should have said that crafty moms rock!!  Wink

My MIL is very crafty: she can kniit, crochet, sew, make her own clothing, paints and is just always creative! I love that!
We have several very pretty paintings in our home  Smiley And she made me a set of dolls made from wood with knitted clothing, I love them!

My mother died when I was 9 years old, but she was crafty too! She owned a spinning wheel, knew how to knit, sew, cross stitch and probably more.

I think the card is cute and yes, it is a great combo with the flowers!  Cheesy
