I was delighted to be part of the IYP swap recently. As I snooped upon my partners pinterest I saw her yearning for some prayer flags - armed with the knowledge that she rather liked fairies and gnomes, I settled down to a few evenings with my Sewing machine.......
Until........
Disaster struck.
With a very large clank, the machine gave up its large stitch and even with a trip to the sewing machine hospital, I received the sad news that it was officially, well and truly.... D>E>A>D !

Saddened that I wouldn't be able to complete my idea I wondered off to my local charity shop where sat upon the counter were two old very sad books. One of which was about "Bird song". Because my mind works in mysterious ways, I immediately conjured up the notion of prayer flags and up cycling and paper crafts.
May I present, my prayer-flag book.

And finally, with a lot of glue, and a little carving and a few more "findings" from the charity shop - and of course it wouldn't be a P_E_S_T product without a bit of felt.

Would love to know what you think. Its my first venture into doing something like this and I have to say I will be doing it again.

Gorgeous. Your machine broke just so you could invent the prayer flag book. Love it!

I think you did a wonderful job with making your project.
Sorry to hear of your busted machine. But you can gain another one. Hopefully better than the one before it.
And stitching is not the only way to make cloth into items. Iron on hem tape works wonders.  Grin
I do altered books myself. And I think you came up with a brilliant idea to make a book.
Then your friend can lounge in bed and see your wonderful creations. I love the colors, and the asparational thoughts. AND MORE MERMAIDS! Did I inspire that??? I love mermaids. I love the Hope and Mending...and the book art where you traced out the words to make your own poem. The one with the balloon girl and bird. Very lovely. I am sure your friend was very happy.  Grin

Very amazing book!  I can tell you really enjoyed making it.  Hope you can find a good deal on a new sewing machine.
