I have been looking at making a bra for a few months now, the main thing holding me back being how complicated they are and that I have a rather large bust. Most commercial bra patterns rarely hit a DD cup, never mind my DDD/F. Finally I really started researching it, and found a few independent pattern makers. I went with a pattern from MakeBra, mostly because it includes a foam lined cup, and the additional structure is something I appreciate.

Over all, it was easier than I thought it would be, just very, very, time consuming. Since it was my first ever bra, it took 13 hours to make. However, Im really proud of it, and it is SO COMFORTABLE. There are definitely spots to improve [I hate foldover elastic], and I will be making more for sure.

As I said, I got my pattern from MakeBra
Elastics, rings, slides, underwire, channeling, foam, and closures I got from Sew Sassy
The cotton and spandex I picked up at work.
Overall this bra cost me about $25 dollars to make! SO much better than the 40+ I spend in stores getting a decent bra.

Thank you!

@lady4feet: I think it probably only really works if you're doing a molded/foam lined cup, because it kinda calls for structure anyway and cotton has so little stretch. I think in an unlined cup it might not go over super well since then you need the extra stretch from other materials.

Wow, that's a very cute bra. I don't think i would muster the courage to try to make one, it seems so likely that it would not fit me very well. I admire yours! And it's so much better than all these boring one color bra found at the stores.

This is MARVELOUS!

I couldn't resist. And it really is amazing, nice job! I would never dare make my own bra.
