The Art Dolls 3 Swap has generated some pretty amazing dolls. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=432401.0#axzz2zHqU4CjG and inspired me to new heights. This was a challenge, but for once everything came together wonderfully. My partner was delighted and I almost kept her.

She is a protector of baby birds, baby rabbits and all things small. She nurtures emerging sprouts because she knows they will gift us with a beautiful harvest later. She loves to garden and cares little for her clothing, often covered in dirt and with seeds and baby birds in her pocket. But when she dons her cape to welcome the new seasons, she transforms into her goddess persona.

I had been looking for a bird goddess, but most are either serpent headed or just not nice. So I looked to my own garden and discovered the Crow Goddess, she is very special.

This is the doll body. Notice her amazingly uninspiring head....it's still there, just buried in the crow neck. The other pic is of a prototype crow head, I did not like the beak, so I created a new one, stuffed it firmly and stitched it to the doll body. Two coats of gesso, sanded,  for the head and legs and hands. Then painted. The painting was the hardest, hard to get the right look.

I found a pic of the goddess in all her glory (naked). Here she is:

I love your Crow Goddess.  She is beautiful and so much nicer than the usual run of bird goddesses.  She looks exactly what you say she is - a loving protector of the garden.

Thank you! So many of the old gods and goddesses are not the kindest folks around. Time for a better natured protector.

She truly is something special, and is standing at the window where she has a good view of my garden and can keep watch.
Thanks again for your time and talent - she's a beautiful work of art!!
