Another cup of tea ?

hi all,
I used to needle felt a few years back but my fingers and wrist hated it! However now i have discovered wet felting and this brilliant beautiful idea.
Wet felted peebles/rocks with embroidery and seed beads. They look wonderful.
there is a tutorial at www.lilfishstudios.blogspot.com.au
and if you scroll through the artist blog you will see many of her stones she has made. The process is very easy and great for beginners like myself. You just got to learn some basic stitching for embroidery.
I especially love the ones that look like they are from the sea with urchins and barnicles etc.

Anyone else out there be interested in having a swap of these in July perhaps?

and here is another tutorial on Youtube if you like.

Those are lovely! I might have to give that a try. I'm definitely interested in a swap, but will be starting a new job in July and might be too busy.  Sad We'll see how things are going then!

I might be interested, always wanted to try needle felting & if this wet felting is easier I'm all for it! Those in the pics are so pretty!  I'll have to look at your links & see if I can do this. July would be fine with me. Cheesy

Yah!
This makes me so happy! I can see several rounds with us all ending up with a lovely bowl full of beautiful stones.
If I am going to host, it might even have to be August as I am a newbie and need a couple of swaps under my belt first.
I have been a swapper on two other sites and I love it so much.

I needlefelt and always wanted to try the pebbles.  I feel in awe of the embroidery on these, how to do it, and so I guess I should try!  I would be in

I watched the youtube on wet felting the stone which I will definitely try
but I still don't understand how you do detailed embroidery on the felted stone, do you used a curved needle? seems hard to embroider without being able to go through, maybe I just have to try

I love the idea, but I'm also a bit stumped about how to go about the embroidery. Where do you hide the knot/tail? I haven't had any luck finding a tutorial for that part either.

Okay I have embroidered a few of these now, hope to get photos up soon.
As with the embroidery, I don't knot at all, I just enter the needle one side then slide it under the felt until the tip comes out the opposite side of the rock, this seems to be enough tail, that the embroidery won't come loose. It's quite easy to embroider actually, you just place your needle between the stone surface and the felt.
Hope that makes sense as it's easier done then explained.
