I am a flyangler and volunteer with Trout Unlimited in Mn and Wis doing habitat restoration and stream surveys. We survey with the help of the DNR to assess the population of trout and other species as related to the health of the watershed.

On one such survey, I was measuring a bucket of trout and snapped a photo of the whole shiny, spotted mess of them before letting them go. I used this photo to design some fabric on Spoonflower, which was printed on silk.

SeeKateSew has a good pattern and instructions for sewing bow ties.  Martha Stewart has some great reverse printed instructions for tying them that you can hang on your shirt button while you look in the mirror tying your tie!

So here's a finished tie that will be donated to a TU fundraiser.

How nice to be able to customize a project to your interest!

This would be a fun prize for a fisherman or any person interested in conservation...nicely done...!

What a great idea for a fabric. And the tie is a wonderful prize for a  fisherman to win.

Thank you. You can buy this fabric on Spoonflower in a variety of fabrics and give it a try. I also have a design there taken from a photo of birch trees with moss and pale turquoise lichen.

I hope the auction raises some good cash. With the funding cuts to the Wis DNR, fundraising takes woman power.

Link to these lovely fabrics! I think the birches would make a lovely reuseable, grocery bag!  A reminder that we need to take care of our environment....

Much appreciated! I couldn't figure out how to do that linky thing.

I think both designs would be great for quilting fabric. Think Jinny Beyer-like border fabrics and kaleidescope effects.

Or, use them for gift wrap for outdoorsy types. If you want to maximize the renewable theme, you could make a re-usable gift bag from fabric.

This is brilliant! The ManFlesh works for a similar species-specific conservation organization as Trout Unlimited and if you don't mind I might try to do something similar for their specific critter. Wouldn't be a bow tie. Of course, I'll never get a photo of this animal, so maybe it'll all come to naught.
