I've been playing about with sewing re-useable grocery bags and was wondering if there was a term for making the boxed bottom this way, so that you have 'decorative' triangles on the outside of the bag.

So they appear as in the photo top right, and are sewn by folding up the bottom of the bag and sewing straight down the sides

I have been hunting for you off and on all day, gal pal. Have not found a name yet. Sorry.
But there are all kinds of neat totes out there. And neat tutes for them, too.
Most of this box bottom bag like thing, they turn the triangle to the inside, and snip it off, rather than putting it opposite outside like you have done.

What I did find is this site:
http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/the_classroom_new/home-decor/

She has lots of gear that she is promoting...but for people like me with limited craft stores....the links could come in handy.

And some of the items you can make do without, or make your own templates. I am not promoting her. Just sharing ideas of things to study. For new crafty ideas.  Grin I will keep looking for your envelope style/brown paper bag. There is so much out there!

I don't know a name for it either, but I just watched a YouTube tutorial last night where a guy made a bag with a bottom like that.  Here's the video link, maybe you'll pick up some info there:

Wonderful tute for this! I think you got it Johnny on the Spot, RedBirdTrue.

We still don't have a true name...but that is a wonderful directionary. Let's just call it an outside boxed bottom bag. There. I coined a new name for it.  Roll Eyes

In my guild we've just called it "reversed boxed corners" I think. Definitely a fun technique!
