My partner in the Complete Nonsense swap wanted a spoon necklace because she loves the book Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde (No it's not THAT book; it's a satirical novel about a future society where people can only see a limited range of colors and the range you can see determines you social class).

I discovered that spoons are really, really, really hard to drill. Or maybe I just have the wrong tools. Either way this was a challenging piece to make for me. I cut the bottom part of the spoon, used a metal file to smooth the edges, hammered the crap out of it to flatten it, and then etched the book title onto the spoon. Shades of Grey is about two characters in different color classes (a green and a red) who fall in love so I added heart beads in each color.
