On Facebook there is a group that does art abandonment. I joined a while ago and have littered town with little paintings and embroideries but on a weekend full of finishes and a new spring cleaning in the sewing room. I finished this smallish lap quilt. And decided to drop it in the park.

At 11 am I left this here.

When I drove past again at 3:10 it was gone.

Beautiful quilt & an awsome idea. I may have to think about stealing the idea. Can I ask what the tag says?

I've heard of abandoned art but never thought of a quilt - I, too, might have to 'steal' this idea.

How pleasant! And what a great use of scrap fabric. Is it tied or machine stitched? What a lucky recipient!

I bet it made someone's day!!  I hope you hear from them!

I like this idea for RAK...small quilted items would be more up my alley than abandoned pieces of art.

It is a lovely scrappy quilt!

The facebook group email just received this.

"Hello
Monday April 7th around 12 noon I was driving through the entrance of our park in stratford, on. I spotted a colourful ziplock bag, leaning against a dog statue. I stopped to see what it was and to my surprise it was a beautiful handmade crib size quilt inside. Attached was a note , which read, Pick me up, take me I,m yours, hurry before someone else does. when I opened it up I noticed that the universe had chosen me to find this....what a wonderful surprise and my eyes filled with tears of joy and happiness. I will treasure this and pass in onto my daughter and hopefully someday she will pass it onto one of her children. I think that this Art abandonment is such a beautiful thing and that there should be many more people doing wonderful things in this world. I was so excited that I told my story to our local newspaper! My daughter and I,in the next while, are going to create some artwork and leave it for someone to find. Thank you so much."

Giving always feels better than receiving. And having your gift be apprectaied is even a little sweeter Smiley That was a wonderful note & the thought that you inspired someone else to create beautiful art & pass it on is very fun!

I so want to do this now - what a fun idea.   Smiley  I wonder if anyone would pick it up, though.  There is a sweatshirt that has been hanging on the fence at our park for the past few weeks lol.  I think people are too "honest" to walk off with anything if they think it belongs to someone else.

lol  there has been one boot laying near the fence at our local park for over a month...and a white t-shirt on top of one of the dug outs...I think you might need to put a large TAKE ME sign in clear view where you live...I love the idea of using a nice clear big bag like that so it looks on purpose!

Way to go sloth003! Not only did you make a gorgeous little quilt and have the courage to leave it out in the world, you inspired the woman and her daughter, as well as a number of folks here, to do something similar.

I was thinking of turning some old clothes into picnic blankets, but I'd end up with way more than I need. Now, I'm thinking that I can leave them in the local park. I'm going to check out the FB page and see if they have tags in multiple languages (the city is very multi-cultural), and if not, I'll see if I can get translations from folks at school!

Thanks for sharing, on so many levels!
