I like liquid soaps but the modern plastic containers always look out of place in our traditional bathroom. I'd had this idea drifting round my head for a while so when this challenge came up I thought I'd give it a shot. I used two containers, an empty jam jar and an old liquid soap dispenser, to make my project. There are a few tutorials online for this, but here's what I did.

- Drew a circle on the lid of the jar that would fit over the thread of the soap dispenser.
- Used a hammer and nail around the circle to perforate the hole in the lid (leaning on a cork coaster stopped any damage to my table).
- Spray painted the jar lid in silver and left to dry for 24 hours.
- Separated the pump lid of the soap dispenser from the base.
- Cut the neck portion of the soap dispenser off the base using a hack saw, then neatened the cut with scissors.
- Fed the neck portion through the hole in the jar lid and attached the pump lid firmly.
- Cut the feed straw of the pump lid with scissors to fit the new jar.
- Filled with liquid soap and placed in the bathroom.

Great reuse - I agree, I hate the plastic containers with the labels, especially if they are printed directly on the bottle, and this has been on my mind to do for awhile too - thanks for your how to.

Very nice! I couldn't put that in my bathroom (kitchen maybe)
because for some crazy reason my soap in there always likes to jump to the floor. Sad

Yes, I hate plastic too and you you could have carried it further by painting the glass jar... or not!

Nice idea! I caved in and bought a soap dispenser when I got sick of the ugly plastic ones... This would have been prettier!
