Hi! This is a recipe that Lana made in her camp cooking class over the summer. She recently wanted to make it all by herself as a gift to some friends that we were visiting. I took pics of her as she worked her way through the recipe and thought it would be fun to make a pictorial tutorial for you.
Ingredients for the cake:
6 egg yolks
2 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1T plus 1tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
zest of 2 lemons
6oz (1 1/2 sticks) of butter
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour
Ingredients for the vanilla buttercream:
8 oz (2 sticks) soft butter
8 oz confectioner's sugar (about 1 cup)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
First gather all the ingredients! Take a long drink. That was hard work!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
add flour, baking powder and salt to a mixing bowl
combine sugar and lemon zest and mix into flour mixture
add butter and milk and mix
add egg yolks and vanilla extract
remember to scrape down the sides as you mix
pour into cupcake molds
bake for 15 minutes and move to wire rack to cool
prepare buttercream by mixing all those ingredients together, frost, and finally ENJOY!
The cake is nice and a bit denser than a boxed recipe. The lemony scents are heavenly!! Hope you give this a try!
