This week's PQ challenge was grocery store.  Perfect!  I had some lovely blueberry and strawberry fabric in my stash and a whole bolt of white.  All I needed was backing and binding (Found them for $4/yd and $2/yd on the clearance table.  SCORE!)

I even had a plan.  I was going to make hour glass blocks with the blueberries and checkerboard border with the strawberries.  The Mr convinced me to make them all hour glass blocks.  I am OK with that, but if I had more blueberries I'd try it again with the original plan.

The thing is, with PQ you only have one week from start to finish.  And, when you start with 10 inch blocks, you cover a lot of quilty ground quickly.  So my quilt ended up being about 78 x 85 inches.  I just realized I've been saying it was 68 by 75 but that is wrong.  It is huge.  (OK so it is barely twin sized but still...)  Every step of the way it is simple.  But there are 72 blocks to mark, stitch, cut, iron, repeat and then trim.  And then just sew 8 blocks together and iron them.  But they are BIG. It was too big to baste on the design floor. I had to buy the spuds dinner so they would help me take it to church and spread it out over 3 tables.

About halfway through I found myself singing

This is the quilt that never ends,
It just goes on and on my friends.
Some one started sewing it not knowing what it was.
I'll continue quilting it forever just because.
This is the quilt that never ends.

Shoving it through the machine at the end truly did seem endless.

Truth is, it did end about 12 hours before the deadline, less one for DST.  So, here you have the Jam and bread quilt. http://twasbrilligand.blogspot.com/2014/03/pq-55-jam-and-bread.html

The details.  Made with quilter's cotton.  Machine pieced quilted and bound.  It has a polyester batting. You can see more pictures on my blog.

The back.  You can just see the diamond shaped quilting.  The red and white checked reminded me of the wax paper you still sometimes get wrapped around your sandwich at the deli.
