For my wonderful partner IsikkahJai in the recent box of colour swap I decorated and sent a little wooden box as a jewellery box. I bought the box in a local craft store - and 2000 flat backed gems from ebay (1000 of each colour).
I painted the box with a couple of coats of orange (the colour theme for the box was orange and turquoise) and then got glueing! After 4 days of glueing I can honestly say if I ever see a flat backed gem again it will be WAY too soon! These things were TINY - and it took me forever!
Then I got 4 big wooden beads from my stash and painted them orange. The colour did not take as the beads had a gloss varnish on - so I got out my file and filed them right down to the wood - getting rid of varnish and pattern - and then painted them orange again - they still took three coats - but it did adhere a lot better. I cut out felt circles which I glued onto the wooden beads - before attaching the beads to the bottom of the box. I then glued a butterfly charm onto the front of the box.
I then covered it with a gloss varnish to give it even more sparkle
I did not take photos of the inside for some reason - but the top and bottom of the inside were lined with more orange felt - the sides on the inside I left bare.
Anyhow - photos! Firstly the lid....
the front - which shows the butterfly and the feet - I glued the feet on in a diamond formation rather than a square - just to be different!
and the bottom/feet
Anyhow - I hope you like it, but more importantly I hope my partner likes it!!
