(That crazy Tree of Life Pendant girl)

« on: March 07, 2014 06:22:02 PM »

I made this for rockmygypsysoul in the Huge, Giant, Enormous Swap! One of the things on her list was a weeping willow tree. Everyone knows me for my wire wrapped tree of life pendants, but I have never actually done a 3D tree sculpture before. But I figured I'd apply the skills I have in wire wrapping for the trees and wing it.

Turns out that I HIGHLY underestimated the amount of time it would take to string all these branches with peridot. I used 5, 36" long strands of natural peridot gemstone or nearly 15 feet!! of it. Shocked No wonder it took me forever. Cheesy

To finish it, I bought a piece of petrified wood for the base. I thought that seemed appropriate. And here it is!

(standard size soda can for scale)

I was so happy with how it came out and she was thrilled with it. She's the one who suggested I enter it in the challenge so here it is!

I think I'll probably stick to pendants but it was fun to try something different and to create something so sculptural too. Grin

It is massively, seriously, incredibly gorgeous in pictures and is even better in real life.  Thrilled doesn't really begin to cover it.  I've just spent like 5 minutes staring at these pictures and trying to process that I own this.

That is so beautiful and an inspiration to us all.  Your are so skilled in making the beads and wire do what you want them to.  I'd love to try something similar but doubt my ability to pull it off.  Definitely rocks.

PFD, that weeping willow is beautiful!  Gypsy is one very lucky lady indeed to have that little work of art in her home.

That is so beautiful! I love these kind of trees and the petrified wood base is the perfect touch.

This is so beautiful! I only ever really made one beaded tree, and that was tiny, just about an inch... so I know that this one really and truly deserves to be in this challenge as well as in the Huge, Giant, Enormous Swap!
